Presenting Complaints & History

  • High fever with chills and difficulty swallowing
  • Swollen, bright red tonsils with white spots (exudate)
  • Enlarged, painful lymph nodes under jaw
  • Halitosis (bad breath) and loss of appetite

Clinical Assessment

An 8-year-old schoolgirl from Thrissur presenting with recurrent tonsillitis (6-8 episodes a year). Every episode required 5-7 days of antibiotics, leading to chronic stomach pain and low immunity. ENT recommended tonsillectomy.

Diagnostic Investigations: Throat swab culture showing Streptococcus positive during acute phase; high ASLO titer (340 IU/ml).

Homeopathic Therapeutics & Management

Belladonna was prescribed for acute red throat with high fever and sudden onset, followed by Phytolacca to treat the hard, congested follicular tonsils and clear glandular swelling.
